After spending two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, wide receiver Troy Williamson will wear this team’s NFL jerseys for one more year as he has signed a one-year contract with the Jaguars, who promise to pay him $100,000 signing bonus and a workout bonus.
Williamson was scheduled to be a restricted free agent, but opted to sign a contract with the team that included guaranteed money. His base salary is slightly less than the $900,000 that the Baltimore Ravens offered to wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth on a one-year contract earlier this week.
Being picked by the Minnesota Vikings as a first-round draft pick, Williamson caught five passes last season as he caught only three passes. However, he ended his season early after he tore his labrum in September. His full career numbers are 87 caught passes for 1,131 yards and four touchdowns.

Jaguars RB Jones-Drew unhappy with team offense
After facing an embarrassing 41-0 loss to the Seahawks at Seattle, the Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew felt furious about how the team’s offense move on field.
“I don’t like to be embarrassed, so I do get upset about it,” Jones-Drew said. “You lead by actions. You can only say so much. You can talk to somebody until you’re blue in the face and they’re not going to do anything. But if you go out there and show why you’re upset and you try to do something to correct your mistakes, then they’ll pay attention.”
By calling himself the second-highest paid “decoy” in the league, behind New Orleans running back Reggie Bush, Jones-Drew expressed how disappointed he was with the team’s play-calling, lack of offensive identity and its constant shuffling of offensive linemen. Indeed the Jaguars’ performance in Seattle was disappointing enough to set the running back off: the team had seven three-and-out possessions, two fumbles and a failed fourth-down conversion on their final 10 drives during the game, and quarterback David Garrard was sacked four times and fumbled twice. What was more, they even received a season-high nine penalties for 73 yards.

Jaguars cut receiver Hughes for mistakes in Sunday loss to Cards
Soon after the Jacksonville Jaguars lost to the Arizona Cardinals by 31-71 on Sunday, the team released receiver Nate Hughes early on Monday. Along with him was tight end Greg Estandia.
The reason is mistakes they made in last Sunday’s game. Hughes dropped a fourth-down pass in the end zone in the fourth quarter that would have cut the deficit to seven points. His performance has not been good this season, with only three catches for 15 yards. No wonder he lost the right of wearing jaguars jersey so suddenly.
Estandia was flagged for illegal motion in the second quarter. It was one of eight penalties for Jacksonville, and it wiped out a 15-yard gain.
The Jaguars soon found replacement for the two. Rookie cornerback William Middleton and free agent safety Courtney Greene were added to the Jaguars’ roster as the team announced the release.

Jaguars RB Jones-Drew quit preseason game with leg injury
In Thursday night’s game against the Washington Redskins, the Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew had to leave the field after bruising his right leg.
The injury occurred when Redskins cornerback Fred Smoot tackled him following a short reception during the opening series. Then Jones-Drew left to the locker room and did not return to the field.
As the cornerstone of the offense, with a record of nearly 4,000 yards rushing and receiving and 40 touchdowns in three seasons, Jones-Drew was given a five-year, $31 million contract by the Jaguars in April. So even though the injury was not serious, the team just still did not want to take the risk of losing their top play maker in a preseason finale.
